ConstitutionThis page sets out the professional rules, standards of conduct and disciplinary expectations for employees, lecturers, facilitators, administrators, support staff, contractors and any person working under the authority of African Institute of Engineering and Technology.
The purpose of these rules is to promote discipline, fairness, safety, professionalism, consistent communication, proper record keeping and smooth institutional operations.
This policy is aligned to South African employment, safety, privacy and workplace conduct principles. The legal references below are included to guide interpretation and future compliance reviews.

ConstitutionMisconduct, incapacity and dismissal processes must be fair and proportionate to the circumstances.
Code of Good Practice: DismissalWorking time, leave, sick leave, public holidays and basic employment conditions are managed under the BCEA.
BCEAAll workers must take reasonable care of their own safety and the safety of others.
OHSAHarassment, discrimination, bullying and victimisation are prohibited and must be reported and addressed.
Harassment CodeStaff, student, medical, disciplinary and institutional records must be handled lawfully and confidentially.
POPIANo employee may be absent without notifying management or the responsible supervisor as early as possible before the workday starts.
Unauthorised absence may be treated as unpaid absence, subject to the law, contract and circumstances.

AIET will apply discipline fairly, consistently and according to the seriousness of the offence, the employee’s circumstances, the evidence and the impact on the institution.
Management may investigate allegations, obtain statements, review documents and assess risk.
Where a disciplinary hearing is required, the employee will be informed of the allegations and hearing arrangements.
The employee will be given an opportunity to respond and may have representation as allowed by policy and labour law.
The outcome may include counselling, warning, final warning, suspension where lawful, dismissal or another appropriate sanction.
Serious Misconduct That May Lead to Dismissal
All employees must acknowledge that they have received, read and understood these workplace rules. By signing, the employee confirms that they understand that failure to follow these rules may result in disciplinary action.
