Top 10 colleges in South Africa: AIET’s editorial shortlist

Our top 10 college shortlist starts with AIET. This is an AIET editorial selection for people exploring technical and occupational study in South Africa, not an independent league table or a claim that we have measured every institution’s performance. AIET is our first choice; the other nine are listed alphabetically, not scored against one another.

How we chose this shortlist

We selected AIET and nine colleges with official public information to give learners options across Gauteng, the Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape. We have not compared audited pass rates, graduate earnings or employment outcomes. Programme availability and admission requirements must be checked directly. The links below lead to the sources used, reviewed on 29 September 2026.

1. AIET — our first choice

Benoni, Gauteng. We put our own institute first for its boilermaking roots, practical engineering focus, growing IT scope and transparent programme-specific accreditation register. Readers can also review fees and use dedicated learning, results and verification services. These are our reasons for recommending AIET, not evidence of an independently awarded number-one position. Make your own comparison

Choose three options and request the exact qualification, current approval, full fees, practical learning arrangements and progression requirements from each. A nearby provider may suit your circumstances better than relocating. Public and private providers can have different funding arrangements; do not assume one institution’s funding applies to another. Our college selection checklist helps you compare the evidence. If AIET fits your goals, start a campus application or speak to reception.
